Free Buses From New Sydney Airport to St. Marys

Free Buses From New Sydney Airport to St. Marys

Western Sydney International Airport is set to open later this year with free public transport connections in place from day one, making access easier for travellers and airport workers alike.

According to information released by the NSW Government, a complimentary bus service will operate between the new airport at Luddenham and the St Marys train and bus interchange, ensuring passengers can connect smoothly with Sydney’s wider public transport network as soon as flights begin. Free Airport Bus Services from Opening Day

The interim airport bus service will begin operating in time for the first arriving passenger flight. Buses will run every 30 minutes, with services starting as early as 4:30 am and operating until midnight on weekdays and until 1:00 am on weekends. Travel time is expected to be around 30 minutes under normal traffic conditions.

Transport for NSW has indicated that service frequency can be increased as airport activity grows.

Connecting Western Sydney Before the Metro Opens

These free buses are a temporary solution ahead of the opening of the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line, which is scheduled to commence next year. Once metro services begin, the interim buses will be phased out.

In addition to the free airport shuttle, new permanent bus routes will also be introduced, linking the airport with key centres including Penrith, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Mount Druitt and Leppington. These services will operate every 30 minutes, seven days a week, from early morning to late evening.

Major Transport Infrastructure Underway

The new 23-kilometre metro line will eventually connect the airport to St Marys in approximately 15 minutes, allowing passengers to transfer to the T1 Western Line for direct rail access to Parramatta, Blacktown and Sydney CBD.

Construction is progressing steadily, with track installation largely complete and station works advancing across multiple locations. The metro is expected to play a major role in supporting long-term employment growth across Western Sydney, particularly around the emerging Bradfield city precinct.

Road access will also be enhanced with the opening of the toll-free M12 motorway, providing direct links between the airport and Sydney’s motorway network ahead of flight operations.

What This Means for Travellers

With free buses, new road infrastructure, rail connections on the way, and extensive parking facilities at the airport precinct, travellers will have multiple transport options when Western Sydney International Airport opens.

For those seeking flexibility, convenience, and comfort — especially for early flights, family travel, or regional trips — car hire will remain one of the easiest ways to get to and from the airport.
